8 Natural Remedies to Help You Go With the Flow

If I asked you how you feel when it’s your period what would you say?

Emotional? A bit weepy? Vulnerable? Over-sensitive? Wiped out? Ungrounded? Crazy and out-of-control? Angry? Paranoid? Jealous?

All of the above, and they change on a moment-by-moment basis?

You’re not alone. These are all common feelings when it’s ‘that time of the month’ and they can all be brought into balance with the Bach Flower Remedies.

There are 38 Bach Flower Remedies discovered by Harley Street doctor Edward Bach in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Bach was way ahead of his time in understanding that a healthy mind leads to a healthy body and he devoted his life to finding natural cures for his patients’ ailments.

Now millions of people around the world use Bach Flower Remedies to bring balance to their emotions and enjoy greater physical health as a result. Bach Flower Remedies are taken orally – 4 drops straight on the tongue or in a drink gently restore balance. You can take between 1-8 Bach Flower Remedies at a time and they work best when you take the remedies that match exactly how you’re feeling.

You might find that your PMT emotions change over time so it’s important to think about how you feel NOW to help you select the most useful remedies.

I used to get really angry just before my period and would find reasons to pick a fight with my boyfriend so I could take my rage out on someone. Then I went through a phase of feeling really weepy and vulnerable every month when I just wanted to hide under the duvet.

It’s important to be honest with yourself and accept exactly how you’re feeling without trying to change it. Your monthly period is the perfect opportunity to get in touch with emotions you might not notice the rest of the month. These are the hidden parts of you that call to be noticed and healed. Notice your true feelings, accept them and then you can allow them to be gently balanced with these safe natural remedies.

Here are my recommendations for the most helpful remedies for PMT – note which remedies best match how you feel when it’s your time of the month.

Just begun to have periods or approaching menopause? Walnut is the remedy for you. It supports you with any transitions in your life, making it easier to accept the changes that are happening to your body. Do you get super-sensitive, vulnerable and in need of protection? Again walnut is the best choice; think of the walnut shell like a shield around you helping you to feel strong and protected.

Do you get bad-tempered, angry, suspicious, jealous, paranoid or defensive? You could quite happily kill someone for looking at you the wrong way or you’re convinced everyone’s talking about you? Turn to holly if you feel any of these strong emotions; it’s a balm to the heart and gently releases these feelings restoring love and openness.

Do you turn into a crazy banshee: feeling totally out of control as though you’re driving a car at 100 miles an hour and could crash at any moment? Do you fear that you’ll do something really dangerous or your mind could give way altogether? Do you suffer from extreme cramps? Cherry plum restores tranquility and composure when any of these states are experienced, helping you to release extreme feelings and express your emotions calmly.

Maybe you feel really happy one minute then find yourself crying the next as your emotions move from one extreme to another. Do you find it impossible to decide between two things?  Even simple decisions like what to wear or what to eat can reduce you to a quivering wreck? Scleranthus is the flower remedy to bring balance when your emotions shift from one extreme to another and it will help you find balance with decision-making too.

Wrung out, exhausted and you need to curl up in bed for a few hours or a day every month? When you feel depleted physically, emotionally and mentally the best remedy to take is olive. It restores strength and vitality so you’ll soon feel renewed.

Find yourself banging into things, falling over, getting all dreamy and ungrounded or even passing out? Clematis will bring your energy back down to earth so that you’ll feel much more grounded and aware of your body.

Some women and girls have feelings of shame and embarrassment about their periods. Maybe your first period arrived unexpectedly in an embarrassing situation or you’ve been teased about menstruation and feel really awkward about it. If you feel ashamed or embarrassed, then pine flower remedy releases those feelings helping you to accept your body.

Do you feel dirty or disgusted when it’s your time of the month? If you get obsessive about keeping clean or feel repulsed by your natural blood flow then crab apple remedy will help you feel more comfortable and loving towards your body.
